The Ethical Orientation and Artistic Limitations of Painters with Martial Duties in the Ming Imperial Court

摘要:

从明代前期至正德年间,具有武职身份的宫廷画师主导明代画坛,其创作凸显出鲜明的“政教伦理统合”特征,表现出以政治权威主动整合伦理规范,通过艺术强化儒家伦理秩序,维护皇权合法性的意识形态内核。他们在艺术题材选择与风格定型层面取得显著成就,对后世文人画及宫廷艺术范式形成深远影响,但亦暴露出程式化倾向、笔墨表现力匮乏,以及在题材拓展、创新突破与技法传承上的历史局限性。

Abstract:

From the early Ming Dynasty to the Zhengde period, painters with martial duties in the imperial court dominated the Chingese artistic landscape in the Ming dynasty. Their works characterized the distinct ethical syncretism of politics and religion, embodying the ideological core of upholding imperial authority by means of integrating ethical norms with political authority and enhancing the ethical order through artistic means. Those painters achieved notable artistic accomplishments through genre choices and stylistic forms, which significantly influenced later generations devoted to literati painting and court aesthetics. On the other hand, their work exposed formulaic tendencies, defiency in chirographic expressiveness, as well as historical limitations in thematic exploration, innovation, and technique transmission.
