Abstract:

To promote the inheritance and sustainable development of Miao ethnic patterns in Southeast Guizhou, this study conducts pattern derivation design based on cultural factors, endowing new artistic value while preserving typical pattern characteristics. Through analyzing cultural factors of Miao patterns, the study explores their characteristics across multiple dimensions including patterns, structure, color, symbolism, and form. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to screen design elements that align with contemporary aesthetics, while shape grammar enables creative translation, resulting in design patterns that combine modern aesthetic appeal with ethnic characteristics. The final design patterns are applied to cultural and creative product design, using these products as carriers to showcase the cultural connotations and artistic value of Southeast Guizhou Miao patterns. Design practice based on Miao pattern cultural factors demonstrates that AHP and shape grammar can effectively extract design characteristics of Miao patterns and guide their positive evolution, providing a feasible methodology for design innovation and cultural inheritance of Chinese Miao traditions.
