威廉·钱伯斯对中国园林的想象及其美学基础探究

William Chambers' Imaginary of Chinese Gardens and His Aesthetic Foundations

摘要:

18世纪,欧洲掀起了一股“中国风”随着中国园林图像的西传,中国园林与当时英国造园家的园林观、美学思想产生冲突与融合,这在英国的造园史上是一个转折点。本文以英国乔治时期的造园家威廉·钱伯斯为研究对象,分析钱伯斯对中国园林的想象性建构及其美学基础。钱伯斯受到英国经验主义美学家伯克美学思想的影响,在对中国园林美学理解不全面的基础上建构起“想象性园林”,尽管理解不全面,但这种不同的园林审美观,在一定程度上促进了英国园林从自然主义的风景式园林向浪漫主义的绘画式园林的转变。钱伯斯的理论与实践说明,在文化艺术的交流中,实践先于理论,感性经验上的融合先于理性理解。

Abstract:

In the 18th century, a "Chinese wind" swept through Europe. As Chinese garden imagery spread westward, it created both conflict and integration with the garden aesthetics of British designers, marking a pivotal turning point in British garden history. This paper examines Georgian gardener William Chambers, analyzing his imaginative reconstruction of Chinese gardens and their aesthetic foundations. Influenced by Burke's aesthetic philosophy, Chambers created "imaginative gardens" based on his partial understanding of Chinese garden aesthetics, contributing to the transformation of British gardens from naturalistic landscapes to romantic painting-inspired designs. Chambers' theory and practice demonstrate that in cultural and artistic exchange, practical application often precedes theoretical understanding, and sensory experience fusion comes before rational comprehension.
