无维之“真”——威廉·弗卢塞尔的技术图像的本质

The “Truth” of Non-Dimensionality: The Essence of Technical Images by William Flusser

巴西籍犹太裔媒介理论家威廉˙弗卢塞尔综合了德谟克里特“原子论”学说和尼采对创造性、虚拟性的肯定,建构了人类文化传播中的人为创造论,并提出了技术图像的概念:随着人的创造力和传播媒介的发展,在经历了二维的传统图像、一维的线性文本之后,由虚空中漂浮不定的、没有维度的、点状的粒子经过装置生产的富有信息的表面。弗卢塞尔指出:对于技术图像而言,重要的不是媒介再现或表征了物,而是它呈现出来的信息;而所谓的“真”就是通过装置将粒子编排、聚合构成的信息而非信息的意义。技术图像的本质就是由人将无维的粒子以创造性的、不断生成的方式进行排列组合,从而建构人们生活于其中的、呈现为信息的、人为性的“真”和“存在”。

Abstract:

Brazilian Jewish media theorist William Flusser synthesized Democritus’s theory of “Atomic theory” and Nietzsche’s affirmation of creativity and virtuality to construct a theory of man-made creation in human cultural communication, and proposed the concept of “technical images”: with the development of human creativity and communication media, after experiencing the two-dimensional traditional images and one-dimensional linear texts, there then emerges a rich information surface produced by devices from floating, dimensionless, point-like particles in the void. Flusser emphasized that with technical images, what is important is not the medium’s representation or depiction of objects, but the information it presents. “Truth” becomes information arranged and aggregated by devices from particles, rather than the meaning of the information. The essence of technical images lies in humans creatively and continuously arranging dimensionless particles, thereby constructing artificial “truth” and “existence” that manifests as information.
