Abstract:

Jinan Museum now houses an early work by Yun Benchu from the Ming Dynasty, titled Picture of Clearing Up After Autumn Rain in the Mountains. The overall style of the painting contrasts greatly with the artist's thoughts and emotions expressed in the inscription. The author uses a combination of "picture", "text", and "history" to examine the historical environment in which the painting was created. The author investigates the social interactions and life situations of the characters Yang Shikong, Liu Rongsi, Wei Huanchu, and Yun Benchu mentioned in the painting inscription, and finds that the contrast between the painting style and the emotions expressed in the inscription is closely related to the background of the late Ming Dynasty, the life experiences of the painter, and their creative mentality. During the exploration process, not only did it enrich the research materials on Yun Benchu's early life, but it also allowed us to observe the life difficulties, psychological states, and coping strategies of scholars in the late Ming Dynasty's Tianqi Dynasty against the backdrop of internal and external troubles in the country.
