人类世、数字劳动与人道主义神话——论《头号玩家》《失控玩家》的元宇宙想象及其限度

The Anthropocene, Digital Labour and Humanitarian Myths: On the Meta-Cosmic Imagination and Its Limits in Ready Player One and Free Guy

摘要:

本文试图重审两部经典美国科幻电影的元宇宙想象及其限度。《头号玩家》与《失控玩家》通过其独特的叙事手法和视觉效果,成功地呈现了元宇宙的想象力。从个性来看,《头号玩家》的元宇宙想象基于人类世的环境危机,部分反映了赛博朋克语境下资本主义尖锐的社会矛盾;《失控玩家》则简化了人类世的环境问题,运用意识形态腹语术塑造出虚拟现实的神话,二元对立的赛博朋克反抗姿态只是一个空洞的能指。从共性来看,两部电影都有意识地昭示并反思数码资本主义语境下数字劳动“娱乐至死”的征候。最后,电影都以“异托邦”的奇观与有限度地“回归现实”,呈现人道主义的神话,来对矛盾进行想象性解决。基于此,本文试图提出电影应当如何表现“元宇宙”的思考。

Abstract:

This paper attempts to re-examine the metaverse imagination and its limits in two classic American science fiction films. Ready Player One and Free Guy successfully present metaverse imaginings through their unique narrative techniques and visual effects. In terms of individuality, the metaverse imagination of Ready Player One is based on the environmental crisis of the Anthropocene, partly reflecting the acute social contradictions of capitalism in the cyberpunk context; Free Guy simplifies the environmental problems of the Anthropocene, using ideological ventriloquism to shape the myth of virtual reality, with the dichotomous cyberpunk resistance posture becoming merely an empty signifier. From a commonality perspective, both films consciously indicate and reflect on the symptoms of digital labor's "amusing ourselves to death" in the context of digital capitalism. Finally, both films present the myth of humanism as an imaginative solution to contradictions through the spectacle of "heterotopia" and a limited "return to reality". Based on this, the paper attempts to propose thoughts on how films should represent the "metaverse".
