Abstract:

Looking back at the cultural traditions of the East and the West, we will find that discussions of synaesthesia, which involve many disciplines, all assume the synaesthetic function of human body and mind as a prerequisite, which is also the fundamental reason “why the arts are synaesthetic”. The ability to communicate between the five senses is “synaesthesia”, which is inherent in the human body, manifested in works of art, and shows different characteristics in different art categories. Among them, literature and mixed arts are at the two extremes of “synaesthesia”. Visual art, with its lines and unique formal language, as well as brushstrokes, textures, tones, and depictions of bodies and movements in scenes, evokes the viewer’s auditory and tactile experiences.The "vibration" of auditory art, the essence of life shared by all things, makes its “synaesthesia” separable from any form. The “synesthesia” that flashes with mysterious light in art, which has the exact two-sided nature of “expression” and “response” as creation, offers a profound revelation in the present moment: it reminds us of the original oneness of the self and the world beyond perception.
