Abstract:

The development of digital technology and multimedia, along with the transformative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, has not only reshaped design practices but also redefined the requirements for design talents in the industry. As designers, it is crucial to master solid design skills and cultivate adaptable design thinking and methods to address new challenges brought about by design transformations. This research focuses on the transformation of design foundation courses and explores changes in design education methods to help undergraduate students adapt their competencies to new circumstances and cultivate design thinking aligned with future industry development. Through a blended approach of online and offline teaching practices and within the framework of design thinking and the double-diamond design process model, the BOPPPS teaching model for design foundation courses is proposed using observational methods and questionnaires. The model consists of six stages: Bridge-in, Objective, Pre-assessment, Participatory learning, Post-assessment, and Summary. By progressing from concrete to abstract teaching content and from thinking to practice, a comprehensive evaluation model is established to achieve the goal of developing students' design thinking abilities and competencies for the future design industry.
