A Comparison of Interior Design Program of Undergraduate Degree between Rhode Island School of Design and Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts

Abstract:

This paper focuses on a comparison of interior design program between Rhode Island School of Design and Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts from training program, curriculum setting and teaching characteristics, to understand the differences and similarities between these two universities. The interior architecture program of Rhode Island School of Design establishes the training plan based on cultivating students’ ability of critical thinking and innovation, and sets up the curriculum for students’ design skills and academic research. It constructs education and training mode combining professional development with cultural creation. This study may have important reference value for the research and development of interior design education in China.
