Abstract:

Cloud pattern decoration in China has a rich history, with diverse forms and styles that reflect the profound interest of the Chinese people in the “cloud” culture. The Chinese aesthetic fascination with “clouds” has persisted for thousands of years, and their keen observation of natural phenomena has enabled them to creatively transform clouds into highly valued artistic ornamentation. By analyzing the rich and colorful cloud pattern styles and aesthetic characteristics in the Han Dynasty clothing, and comparing them with the cloud pattern styling and combinations in the Liao Dynasty clothing, this article elucidates the progressive development and influences of the Han Dynasty cloud patterns on those of the Liao Dynasty. It also provides an inductive analysis of typical cloud patterns in the Liao Dynasty clothing designs, offering valuable data and theoretical framework for a deeper exploration of the Liao Dynasty clothing patterns.
