A Practical Exploration of Timbre Shaping in Musical Performance: Take the Role of YOSHIKO in the Musical "NO LONGER HUMAN" as an Example

Abstract:

In performing art such as musicals, character building matters most, and it is crucial to choose the proper timbre. Different timbre have different ways of shaping. The author summarizes her own practical experience, taking the role YOSHIKO in the original Chinese musical "NO LONGER HUMAN" as an example, to explore how to shape different timbre in musical performances. First of all, the author discusses the importance of timbre for building musical characters, from the two perspectives of how timbre helps musical actors to establish character settings and express character emotions. Then, the author introduces how she, as a musical actor, chooses the appropriate timbre for the character she plays.
