Abstract:

As two different branches of expressive art therapy, Music therapy and Art therapy belong to the interdisciplinary fields of clinical medicine, psychology, and art. These two therapeutic methods have their own characteristics, and they also have the possibility of integration. In comparison, the development of expressive art therapy in China lagged slightly behind that in Europe and the United States. Nowadays, music therapy is entering a prime period of growth. The authors combined the therapeutic experience gained in the United States and the clinical practice in the Department of Psychology at the Children's Hospital of Fudan University in China to analyze the possibilities of integrating music therapy with painting. This article records the authors' perception as music therapists in the National Children's Medical Center.
