Abstract:

Nym Wales was Edgar Snow’s first wife, but she has received much less attention in research compared with Snow. In her extensive dissemination of images portraying the Communist Party of China, her photographic style differs from Snow’s portrait photography. She primarily uses archival portraits to subjectively link the image of the Communist Party of China with biographical methods favored by women. Behind this reliance on archival portrait to promote the image of the Communist Party of China lies her unique perspective of red cultural historiography.
