Abstract:
The theme of Pipaji has always been controversial. According to the author Gao Ming's "no losing of myself", Zhang Yongfeng believes that the theme of Pipaji is Gao Ming regretted for being an official. However, this view is open to question. Gao Ming never really said goodbye to officialdom. It is also not true that he wanted to leave officialdom in his later years. Gao Ming's "no losing of myself" means that without the process of doing meritorious deeds, he directly realized his ideal life of talking about poetry and enjoying the scenery. It reflects Gao Ming’s concept of retiring after winning merit. The concept of retiring after winning merit was very popular at that time, which was the result of the concept of Confucian enterprising tradition and the concept of seclusion at the end of Yuan Dynasty.
