Abstract:
In the age of visual culture, photography is not just a subject or a skill, but a unique language that is altering our way of life. The ultimate essence of photography is to record, with its visual impact and its ability to recall memories, photography faithfully records what the human eye sees, and also the inconspicuous light and shadow that ordinary people tend to overlook. The teachers and students of the photography major of the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts and the photographers of the Shanghai Changning District Film Association use the photography's ability to record and express their thoughts and concerns on social issues and technological development, injecting a new source of vitality into the city's cultural construction. This paper illustrates the challenges and opportunities faced by today's photography education by combing the development of photography, introducing the recording characteristics of photography, incorporating cases of collaborative projects between schools and local entities.
